As a campus of Memorial University, the Fisheries and Marine Institute is Canada’s most comprehensive centre for education, training, applied research, and industrial support for the ocean industries. Located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, we are one of the most respected centers of marine learning and applied research in the world.
The main campus of the Marine Institute overlooks the city of St. John’s from within Pippy Park, which has extensive hiking trails and recreational facilities. This building houses a flume tank, a seafood processing plant, freshwater aquaculture research and development facilities, as well as extensive marine simulation facilities. The Dr. C.R Barrett library, located on campus, houses one of Canada’s largest marine-related collections.
The Marine Institute provides a full range of industry-driven programs focusing on marine sciences and technology at the undergraduate and graduate level. All programs and courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for success in the workforce. Many programs include a work placement portion that allows students to gain the experience employers are looking for upon graduation.
